Manchester City’s 2019/20 campaign has been severely hindered by the ongoing injuries to star defender Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte has been superb since joining City from Athletic Bilbao for £57million in 2018, winning the Premier League twice since moving to England.
But his fitness problems this season have played a major role in City’s poor performances.
With the coronavirus pandemic putting football on hold, City have been given the chance to get Laporte back to full fitness.
How did Aymeric Laporte get injured?
Laporte played the first few games of the season but then suffered a serious knee injury in City’s 4-0 win over Brighton on August 31.
The Frenchman came back in January and played three games before suffering another injury.
The 25-year-old was forced off in the first half of City’s Champions League win in Real Madrid with a hamstring problem.
He did not play again before football went into lockdown.
When will Aymeric Laporte be back?
Laporte was expected to be out for a month with that hamstring injury meaning he should be fit to return when football resumes.
He may need to feature in some warm-up games before he’ll be fit enough to play in the Premier League.
The defender has played just eight games for City in all competitions so far this term.
What has been said?
Pep Guardiola said following Laporte’s injury in February: “He’s had four or five months [out] and it’s a problem when you come back, and he came back in this demanding game, it’s a pity.
“We dreamed to be with him until the end. Unfortunately, we’ve suffered a lot in this department.
“Life is not easy and always in the world the people who survive are the ones who cope with the bad moments.
“It is what it is. Accept it, work hard to come back as soon as possible.”
